Should the Federal Government approve a proposal by Democrats to provide $25 billion to rescue the US Auto Industry?

Democrats may have applauded British Prime Minister Tony Blair's speech to the joint session of Congress. But in their hearts, they and the entire left must have loathed his speech.

To understand why, let us enter the minds of leftists and observe their thoughts on comments made by Mr. Blair.

"Thank you, Mr. President, for your leadership."

Leadership!? Tony, are you kidding? Are you a Laborite or a Tory? Al Gore and Joe Lieberman, or Ralph Nader -- these men would have led America far better after 9-11. They would have never invaded Afghanistan, let alone, Iraq. They would have asked the United Nations to deal with the problems of Islamic terror and with Saddam. That would have been leadership!

"There has never been a time when the power of America was so necessary or so misunderstood . . . "

U.N. power, not American power, is necessary. American power is just a euphemism for corporate imperialism. The world would be a better place if America had less power.

"All nations that are free value that freedom, will defend it absolutely, but have no wish to trample on the freedom of others."

Baloney. First of all, America is hardly free: African-Americans aren't free, nor are gays, women, Hispanics, the elderly, the young, or the 40 million Americans without health insurance. Second, so-called free America has always trampled on others' freedoms. Remember slavery?

"The threat comes because in another part of our globe . . . a fanatical strain of religious extremism has risen."

This is just more anti-Muslim prejudice. We have at least as much religious extremism here with all these Christians who believe third-trimester abortions should be banned.

"In the end, it is not our power alone that will defeat this evil. Our ultimate weapon is not our guns, but our beliefs."

Enough with this talk about "evil" and "beliefs." You sound like Bush and all these other fanatics who talk about "Judeo-Christian values."

"Just as the terrorist seeks to divide humanity in hate, so we have to unify it around an idea, and that idea is liberty."

Liberty? That proves you are not one of us, Tony. We believe in equality, not liberty.

"The risk is that terrorism and states developing weapons of mass destruction come together . . . If we are wrong, we will have destroyed a threat that at least is responsible for inhuman carnage and suffering."

"Inhuman carnage and suffering"? That has never meant anything to us. Not under Stalin or Mao, not in North Korea, and not in Cambodia. So it certainly doesn't bother us about Saddam's Iraq. All such talk does is divert people's attention from real evils -- like lack of national health insurance, obscene corporate profits and global warming. Continued...
